‘Tax Man’ Throws Hat into Ring to Replace #Vacca

By Robert Press
POLITICS- His name is John Cerini, and he is the latest entry to the 13th city council race. You won't find Mr. Cerini in the Democratic primary, however, because he has hopes of running on the Republican line in the November general election against whomever wins the Democratic primary. John Cerini is known as the Tax Man because he among other things does taxes in his Throggs Neck office.

This past weekend at the Open House of the Bronx Republican Party headquarters, Cerini was explaining why he is running for the city council seat currently held by term-limited Councilman Jimmy Vacca. Cerini was talking about how real estate and water taxes have gone up in the city which is hurting the homeowners in the 13th council district. He complained about overdevelopment, where individual homes are being bought up to make way for much larger buildings housing many more families. The need for more police in the district, especially in the 45th precinct, and several other top…

Border IS Secure, New Plan Leads Country Down Dangerous Path, Elected Officials Say

By Dan Gesslein
POLITICS- New York Democrats are vowing to fight President Trump on his executive orders promising to defund sanctuary cities and build a wall on the border.

Yesterday Trump pledged to withhold federal funding for sanctuary cities, like New York, who protect undocumented immigrants. New York receives $7 Billion in federal funding.  Citing crimes committed by undocumented criminals who have not been deported Trump lay the blame on sanctuary cities,
“These jurisdictions have caused immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our Republic.”
In the executive order the president cited the impact illegal immigration has on security and government resources.
“The recent surge of illegal immigration at the southern border with Mexico has placed a significant strain on Federal resources and overwhelmed agencies charged with border security and immigration enforcement, as well as …

McDonald’s ushers in Rise of the Machines

Bye, bye living wage, say hello to getting your Big Mac Attack on an iMac

By Robert Press
BRONX- There is a machine revolution going on at a McDonald’s in the Bronx. A new ordering kiosk is set to eventually replace workers at one store in the light of the increase in the minimum wage.

At a McDonald's on White Plains Road just south of Allerton Avenue you will soon be placing your order from a new 'Order Taker Machine’ (OTM). The kiosk was installed after news broke that the minimum wage was going up and costs at the franchise store have to be kept down.
This new OTM is only one of four such kiosks that have been placed in the Allerton McDonalds. After all it takes only pennies an hour to run this OTM, it will never ask for a raise, overtime, and call in sick. Plus with this OTM the owner will not have to pay unemployment, or even have to keep tax records for this new employee.
Officials tell Bronx Voice that no employee are to be fired, but that would mean no new employees would …

A New President Takes Office

By Robert Press
POLITICS- At 11 am today the United States will have a new President.

There has been much unrest about the election, and how a candidate who did not win the popular vote was elected. The two-party system gave voters the choice of two candidates who each had their own problems (better known as baggage), and voters decided that they wanted a change from what was currently going on. One can say that the Electoral College is not a fair way to elect a president, but then you would have a few states where the population is the largest such as California, New York, Florida, and Texas selecting the president. The votes from the other 46 states and U.S. territories would not really matter since the four largest states would be determining just who would be elected by their plurality of number of votes.
In this election we saw that states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa, and other medium sized states were the key factors in Donald Trump winning. As to just what the new Trump…

Rudy’s Return?
By Robert Press
POLITICS– The latest breaking story is that there are people trying to get former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to run for Mayor of New York City. There is one slight problem with that idea, and our beloved current mayor Bill de Blasio knows that he has nothing to worry about.

The big problem being that one has to be a resident of the district (or city) you have any intentions of running in for one year unless it is a special election. At last check Hillary Clinton is a resident if Chappaqua New York where she voted in the presidential election. There was also talk of digging up Ed Koch, but maybe Rudy Giuliani wants to run for mayor again. That could be the reason he did not take a job in the Trump administration.
Since it is almost sure there will be no credible Democratic candidate running against Mayor de Blasio that is as stated by one citywide elected official “unless he is indicted”, who will be the sacrificial lamb or candidate running again…

Net Neutrality Protection Bill Introduced in Congress

POLITICS– Congressman Eliot Engel, a top member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, joined colleagues from both the House and Senate to unveil new legislation that would restore Net Neutrality protections for consumers and small business.

“A free and open internet is essential to modern democracy. The Trump Administration has put Net Neutrality at risk and House Democrats are committed to protecting it,” Engel said.
“We have unveiled comprehensive legislation, the Save the Internet Act, that will protect consumers and small businesses from having their internet speeds blocked, throttled, or tiered based on usage. This bicameral legislation must be a top priority in both the House and the Senate, and I am hopeful that it will move quickly through Congress.”
The “Save the Internet” Act creates popular, bipartisan and targeted net neutrality protections, and codifies the FCC’s 2015 Open Internet Order similar to last year’s Congressional Review Act that passed the Senate and had bi…
